Details about

Our Intensive Therapy Program

How it works:

We offer an Intensive Therapy Program for 3-4 hours a day, five days a week, for three weeks.  During your childs first day of therapy they will participate in a comprehensive initial evaluation.  The therapists will tailor the therapy program to fit your childs unique needs.

Each day your child will participate in warm-up exercises including moist heat, massage, myofascial release techniques, and thorough stretching.  Next, through the use of the Universal Exercise Unit (UEU) or Cage, they will perform a series of resistance exercises to improve muscle strength.  The cage is also used with a system of bungees that enables the participant to experience a variety of positions with reduced weight bearing.  The participant can complete activities that they can not yet independently perform.  During Intensive Therapy the participant is required to perform exercises and developmental and functional skills repeatedly; which is a factor that enhances their ability to perform such skills with greater independence.

   Who Can Benefit?

Intensive therapy can benefit children with a variety of diagnoses.  At First Step Achievements children and young adults with Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Delay, hypotonia, Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, ADHD, ASD, and other diagnoses have progressed through participation in Intensive Therapy.

  • Improved stabilization
  • Increased strength
  • Achievement of developmental milestones
  • Increased balance
  • Increased coordination
  • Decreased muscle tightness
  • Improved posture
  • Improved sensory processing
  • Increased independence
Why three weeks, and what comes after that?
.
A three-week program allows ample time for the therapists to engage the participant in exercises that will improve their strengths and weaknesses.  It takes the brain and nervous system about three weeks to integrate this new learning and 3-6 weeks after the session to fully appreciate the benefits.

   Modified Therapy!

Many of our local families are interested in continuing services with First Step Achievements     between Intensive Sessions.  This option, called a Modified Program, can be discussed with the     therapist after a full three week session has been completed.

Free Complimentary Screening

During the complimentary screening you and your child will have an opportunity to meet the therapists and see our facility.  During this meeting your childs needs can be briefly assessed and determine whether there are any contraindications or precautions that may limit your childs participation in therapy.
